Job Duties/Qualifications

Briefly describe a typical day for the person in this position: 

In this role, the engineer will be responsible health and operations of Infosario Registry Platform's puppet infrastructure in a Linux environment. Duties such as building puppet modules, automated scripts, production application support, installation, administration, documentation, performance analysis,  and troubleshooting will be some of the daily tasks. In addition, the engineer will be expected to interface with business and development teams to improve technical operation of the platform and provide application support in a 24x7 environment.

Describe your ideal candidate. What qualities/characteristics/skills/abilities do you expect him/her to have? 

The ideal candidate will have managed an environment using a configuration management tool such as puppet. Coding and/or scripting skills in bash, perl or python is essential to success in this position. Experience with systems and IT operations in a virtualized/cloud Linux environment. Comfort with frequent, incremental code testing and deployment, leveraging build and deployment tools such as Bamboo, Nexus, Maven and Subversion. The ideal candidate should have a strong focus on business outcomes and be comfortable with collaboration, open communication and reaching across functional borders. Prior experience working in a 24x7x365 support environment would be preferred. Candidates with ITIL certification will be given preference.

 

What do you see as the selling points for this position and what is the career ladder? 

Any engineer that has worked in a large server environment should understand that IT is changing from manual mistake-prone work to repeatable automated work. This role will encompass a broad scope of technology; interfacing with a broad business and development team in an agile programming environment. 

From a career perspective, the environment and strategy is forward-looking, and would align the candidate's skill set with upcoming trends in information technology such as devops, platform engineering and open source tools.
