Here are high level traits I am looking for in this candidate
- Strong advocate for performance and improved customer experience
· Someone who can own the end to end performance of our platforms
· Design/Create/setup automated monitoring frameworks using existing toolset or create new to find performance issues earlier in prod before impacting end users and reduce mean time to resolution
- Drive continuous improvement into our systems and educate peers on best practices
- Run capacity and performance experiments to determine scaling and utilization parameters for various service tiers
- Monitor, analyze, debug, recommend, implement and/or coordinate optimizations at multiple tiers of our applications, platform and infrastructure
- Educate teams on how to improve performance
- Driving cross organizational projects and initiatives to help improve end user performance
- Designing and building tools and dashboards to help track changes in the customer experience across multiple platforms and regions
- Ability to create meaningful metrics to track performance goals and KPIs
Critical Functions:
- Design and Develop Automated Performance test framework.
- Performance Test planning, Strategy and reporting.
- Coordinate with Business, Engineering and Dev Ops.
- Develop efficient monitoring for performance and production.
Requirements
A successful candidate will have:
- Master's Degree in Computer Science, related experience or equivalent experience preferred.
- Ten plus years experience in a software/web based performance testing environment.
- Four plus years experience of scripting experience in perl/shell/python/java or similar languages.
- Experience in hands-on Software Development (programming in Java, J2EE, etc.).
- Background in product development is a plus.
- Extensive knowledge of IT concepts, strategies and methodologies. Extensive knowledge of key tools used for analysis, automated testing and development.
- Extensive knowledge of application architectures and technical standards.
- Extensive knowledge of layered systems architectures and layered solutions and designs; extensive understanding of shared software concepts.
- Proficient in multiple programming languages and tools.
- Proficient in new and emerging technologies and SDLC advancements such as Cloud computing, Mobile and Continuous Integration and Deployment.
- Negotiation, facilitation and consensus building skills.
- Strong oral and written communication skills; presentation skills Proven troubleshooting and problem-solving ability.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Excellent written and verbal communications skills required.
- Strong attention to detail and proven ability to meet deadlines.
- Must be proficient in using MS Office.
- Expert in performance engineering techniques and processes.
- Experience in designing/modelling large performance tests.
- Hands-on experience in one or more scripting(perl/shell/python/java) languages.
- Experience with Unix/Linux systems with scripting experience in Shell, Perl or Python.
- Experience in implementing large scale performance testing tools.
- Experience in implementing continuous integration and continuous deployment methodology for performance engineering.
- Experience in cloud computing preferably AWS.
- Expertise in designing load patterns by understanding the production workload and business demand.
- Expertise in hardware and software capacity planning and management.
- Ability to understand business requirement and convert it into performance needs including end user transactions management and workload.
- Hands on experience in designing continuation integration for performance testing using tools like Jmeter, Jenkins or similar.
- Hands on experience conducting different performance test types including Load, failover, stress and capacity planning.
- Experience on open source performance testing tools such as Jmeter, LoadUI, Grinder or similar is highly desirable.
- Expertise with Application performance monitoring tools like Dyntrace, New Relic on analyzing load test results and finding performance bottlenecks.
- Experience with AWS monitoring tools such as cloud watch, zenoss.
- Ability to monitor test environment and to be able to extract meaningful monitoring data to aid in load test runs.
- Expertise in understanding various components that comprise a test/production environment (Web/App/Database/Content tiers), Firewalls, Load Balancers, Global Load Balancers etc.
- Working knowledge of UNIX (Sun Solaris, Red Hat Linux) Documentation expertise with respect to load test - Devising test plans, gathering performance test requirements, extract and provide meaningful analysis from a load/performance test run.
- Provide assistance in capacity planning and work in conjunction with devOps, dev and IT teams.
- Good team player and a go-getter. Ability to mentor junior engineers in the team.
- Ability to act as a liaison and build consensus among the various teams that participates in the load test cycle.
- Hands-on technical experience combined with strong management and communication skills.
- Capable of technical deep-dives into code, networking, operating systems and storage, yet verbally and cognitively agile enough to hold your own in a strategy discussion.
