Oracle DBA with good experience in PL/SQL

 

 

Position Summary:

• Designs and maintains Oracle databases to ensure integrity, performance, accessibility, and recoverability of data within the information technology environment.

• Closely monitors performance; identifies problems and implements solutions; ensures the database is running at optimum speed and efficiency.

• Monitors file system space and database allocation. Verifies efficient use of disk storage; reclaims dead space; optimizes space allocation and avoids out-of-space conditions.

• Maintains database backup/recovery environment.

• Evaluates and installs database management systems, standards, guidelines and quality assurance for database deliverables, database definitions, tables, and implements custom database scripts.

• Provides expertise in devising, negotiating and defining the tables and fields provided in the database.

• Adapts business requirements, developed by modeling/development staff and systems engineers, and develops the data, database specifications, and table and element attributes for an application.

• Installs and upgrades databases and related products in keeping with current technology trends.

• Upholds the safety compliance standards inherent in PSE's operating and/or field procedures related to work responsibilities. Promotes and supports a culture of total safety.

 

Job Responsibilities:

• Works closely with application analysts to create database schemas and sub-schemas.

• Creates and maintains physical databases in support of application-specific data needs and provides adequate safeguards for security/integrity for medium sized applications.

• Participates in the development of rules, procedures, and standards for the access and maintenance of shared data resources.

• Reviews overall physical database structures for data integrity, performance quality, recoverability, maintenance, and space requirement considerations.

• Proficiency in SQL or PL/SQL.

• Assists in the development of utilities for monitoring databases.

• Implements databases for development, testing and production, ensuring required functionality.

• Monitors database availability, performance and capacity, ensuring service levels are continuously met.

• Backs up and recovers databases.

• Ability to monitor and tune the database.

• Provides database problem-resolution support, including off-hours coverage, based on required business service levels.

• Participates in the evaluation of Oracle DBA tools and new DBMS technologies.

• Demonstrates working knowledge of database design principles and data administration standards.

• Understanding of the relational database model and theoretical knowledge of relational database techniques.

• Works well with peers and clients.

 

Minimum Qualifications / Knowledge / Skills / Abilities:

• Bachelor's degree and 8+ years of experience in related field or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience.

• Solid experience in the design, administration, programming, and support of the Oracle RDBMS.

• Working knowledge of SQL and/or PL/SQL
