Job Description:
Senior SQL DBA - Voorhees, NJ
MS SQL Server DBA role responsible for providing operational and development database services to the organization. Primary responsibilities include owning, tracking and resolving database related incidents and requests, participation in design of database architecture for current and future products, responding to database related alerts and escalations and working with research and development teams to implement strategic solutions. Requires a heavy emphasis on performance, availability and capacity management.
Responsibilities:
o Manage, monitor and troubleshoot all production, development, and test databases.
o Perform service restoration in event of issue including working with vendors to ensure timely response to problems.
o Serve as point of contact to internal and external customers through problem resolution
o Perform ongoing operational activities, problem management, user assistance and training as necessary
o Monitor and ensure adequate capacity
o Perform ongoing database and application performance tuning activities.
o Provide off-hours support as required to perform job functions and ensure service delivery
o Gain understanding of applications that utilize databases and monitor and troubleshoot application issues that impact database performance and stability and overall service delivery.
o Perform application upgrades and patching as appropriate.
o Work with other areas of IT to troubleshoot and resolve service issues.
o Plan, design, and develop databases including schema and table layouts, underlying disk configuration, backup process, high availability and all other configurations.
o Understand customer requirements and define initial and ongoing capacity needs.
o Remain current on emerging technologies and possible application at NFI
o Develop and test data recovery strategies and perform data restoration activities as required.
o Identify on-going improvement opportunities.
o Install and configure databases in support of design
o Perform ongoing upgrades and patches as required
o Develop, review, and support SQL code, stored procedures, triggers, etc.
o Perform production review of in house written code and assist developers in optimization and troubleshooting
o Perform production code elevations following change management procedures
o Understanding of security impacts of actions and adherence to company guidelines
o Assist in development and modification of security guidelines
o Act as advisor to internal and external customers on security issues
o Assist in development of departmental policies and procedures
o Define and assist in deployment of Process Improvements
o Assist in continuous development of Support Services procedures and staff
Requirements:
· Degree - BA / BS in Information Technology or equivalent experience
· At least 5 plus years’ experience in MS SQL Database Administration
· MS SQL certifications a plus
· Effective team member on concurrent tasks/project management
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills
· Strong interpersonal skills – ability to communicate with all levels of customers, vendors, and IT resources
· Attention to customer service excellence and strong attention to details
· Strong analytical and troubleshooting skills.
· Develop and maintain technical and team documentation
Technology Specific Requirements:
MS SQL
o SQL 2000/2005/2008, 2012 is a plus
o SQL Server in a Microsoft Windows Clustering active / active and active / passive.
o SQL Server Management of SSRS, SSIS and SSAS.
o T-SQL Scripting
o SQL Server using linked server experience
o Troubleshooting and resolving database integrity issues, performance issues, blocking and deadlocking issues, replication issues, log issues, connectivity issues, security issues etc.
o Performance Tuning, Query Optimization, using Performance Monitor, SQL Profiler and other related monitoring and troubleshooting tools.
o Identify and troubleshoot SQL Server related CPU, memory, I/O, disk space and other resource contention.
o Strong knowledge of backups, restores, recovery models, database shrink operations, DBCC commands, Clustering, Database mirroring, Replication and High Availability strategies for MS SQL environments.
o SQL Development – ability to write and troubleshoot SQL Code and design (stored procedures, functions, tables, views, triggers, indexes, constraints).
o SQL Development- experience in creating database architecture with associated schema as part of a software design process.
o Strong knowledge of how indexes, index management, integrity checks, configuration, patching.
o Familiarity with windows server, security delegation, SPNs, storage components.
o Office productivity tools including Excel & Word
