JOB PURPOSE:             

Working with cross-functional project teams to design and implement highly available infrastructure that will support and host .NET solutions using IIS and related Microsoft technologies.

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

One of many responsibilities of the Infrastructure team is to deliver end-to-end infrastructure solutions to internal customers. Working with Enterprise Architecture, Development, Information Architecture, and other teams, the Senior Systems Engineer will be expected to provide the following services:

 

  • The Senior Engineer will deliver infrastructure solutions that are technically sound, resilient to failure, operationally supportable, and meet the requirements of the CARES program and industry best practices
  • Manage, configure and design solutions based on one or more of the following technologies:
    • Microsoft Azure
    • Windows Server 2012 R2
    • Active Directory
    • Internet Information Server (IIS)
    • System Center Operations Manager (SCOM)
    • System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM)
    • System Center Service Manager (SCSM)
    • System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM)
    • System Center Data Protection Manager (SCDPM)
    • SQL Server
    • Microsoft Clustering Technologies
    • Certificate Services, etc.

 

  • Deliver infrastructure solutions and demonstrating a variety of skills including infrastructure architecture, hands-on build-out and configuration, and technical documentation
  • A high degree of collaboration with Enterprise Architecture and other teams is required to provide high level of agility within a defined delivery process. The ideal candidate will exhibit strong leadership skills, will be forward thinking, will be self-motivated, and will be able to work effectively in a diverse, highly talented team, continuously striving for excellence
  • The ideal candidate will exhibit strong client-facing skills, leadership skills, will be forward thinking and have the ability to work across a multitude of technical and non-technical groups
  • Provide technical documentation to project and operations teams as part of project deliverables
  • Perform other assigned duties

 

SAMPLE DELIVERABLES:

 

Provide the following deliverables per direction of and assignment by the Agency Project Sponsor and/or the Agency Project Manager:

 

  • Documentation of conceptual designs of platform, hardware, and software infrastructure solutions
  • Documentation of existing infrastructure architectural designs and solutions
  • Documentation of accepted infrastructure architectural solutions
  • Status Reports
  • Other deliverables as identified & assigned

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Ability to communicate in the English language clearly via written and spoken word to multiple stakeholders including peers, mid-level and senior leadership.
  • Accomplish all tasks as appropriately assigned or requested.

QUALIFICATIONS:

The System Administrator shall, at a minimum, meet the following requirements or possess an equivalent combination of education and experience:

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE:

  • 7+ years of experience with systems engineering and administration
  • Enterprise-class experience with multi-tier Microsoft environments supporting multi-tier and IIS applications
  • Experience with globally dispersed, tiered & scalable applications, highly available clusters, load balancers and enterprise class storage systems that meet 7 x 24 100% availability objectives
  • Experience interacting with customers and appropriate representatives to analyze, validate, specify, verify, document and manage the requirements
  • Experience designing, implementing and managing one or more of the following technologies:
    • Active Directory
    • Internet Information Server (IIS)
    • System Center Operations Manager (SCOM)
    • System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM)
    • System Center Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM)
    • System Center Service Manager (SCSM)
    • SQL Server
    • Microsoft Cluster Server
    • Microsoft Azure
    • Hyper-V
    • VMware/vSphere
  • Experience implementing hosted and stand-alone .NET solutions
  • Working knowledge of networking protocols and components including
    • TCP/IP
    • DNS
    • Load Balancing
    • Firewalls
    • IPSec
    • IP Subnetting, etc.
  • Experience designing and implementing High Availability and Disaster Recovery solutions
  • Scripting experience (PowerShell, Batch, WMI, VBScript, etc.)
  • Experience working on a matrix team consisting of a variety of Development, Enterprise Architecture, Business Analysts, and other project related groups/individuals

    • SCOM (required)

  • Server Deployment and Automation
  • Microsoft Clustering Technologies
  • Windows Server Hardening
  • Backup Solutions and Disaster Recovery
  • Server vulnerability assessment and penetration testing solutions
  • Microsoft Azure (required)

Soft Skills:

  • Willingness and capability to quickly learn new technologies required for accomplishing project goals
  • Willingness and ability to produce high quality operational documentation, including Visio diagrams, high-level descriptions of the environment, as well as detailed instructions outlining the steps required to repeat the build-out and configuration of infrastructure designs and solutions
  • Strong customer service skills with high level of professionalism and ability to work with complex situations
  • High organizational skills
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work efficiently and productively without direction or guidance

EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS:

  • Preferred - Associate's or Bachelor's degree in Information Systems or related field OR a High School diploma and 10 years of professional work experience

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret the English language.
