Job Title::Android Developer

Location:: Cambridge, MA,

Duration::6 + Months

The Android Developer performs software design and coding for Online Buddies mobile product.  The Android Developer will work on the Software Development team, where responsibilities include: day-to-day programming, collaboration with leadership and project management in an Agile process to aid in the definition of iterative development 'sprint' backlog work, and regular interaction with the rest of the Engineering department. The Android Developer should have some working experience with an Agile software development lifecycle, from requirements gathering through design, development, testing, deployment, and subsequent release onto live production system. The Android Developer will also work in partnership with Systems Engineer as needed to support production update and ongoing maintenance issues as required. 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Developing new features on existing Android mobile apps;
• Work closely with Product owners to define implementation scope;
• Participate with wider Development team in Agile-based sprints;
• Authoring some unit test scripts;
• Handling design and coding assignments;
• Bug fixing;
• 3rd Tier support of Systems team on production issues as needed. 

EDUCATION AND TRAINING:

• BS or BA degree preferred.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE AND SKILLS:

• Solid understanding and practical experience of software development life cycles, with particular emphasis on release engineering functions;
• Experience-based understanding of both client and Web application architectures;
• Have strong coding practices, good design documentation, and experience with unit testing;
• Understanding and experience with Agile software development methodologies;
• Excellent customer service attitude, communication skills (written and verbal), and interpersonal skills;
• Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills;
• Ability to be flexible and adapt to any given situation;
• Ability to work under pressure and in high stress situations with a calm demeanor;
• Willingness to work rare occasional evenings and weekends in support of production issues as needed;
• Desired experience working in eCommerce and/or social networking applications;
• Able to test and fine-tune applications for optimal performance;
• Able to collect and organize business requirements and work from UI framework and turn them into functional applications;
• Passion for building great user interfaces;
• Having an app in the Android Store is a huge plus.

TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS:

• 3+ years of Java application development;
• 2+ years of Android development using Java and Android SDK; experience with frameworks like Swing and SWT are beneficial;
• Knowledge of C/C++ is a plus;
• Experience with Eclipse is a benefit;
• Solid understanding of Object Oriented design and systems architecture for mobile devices would be needed;
• Experience with multi-threaded programming, asynchronous, and event-driven application design necessary;

Web development experience is significant benefit (HTML, JavaScript, CSS, AJAX, PHP, Ruby, etc).
