Obtain a Linux System Administrator Consultant to assist the support of Linux based projects.
B. BACKGROUND:
The client’s Application Server Administration (ASA) section supports 150+ Linux servers on Cisco ESX Virtual Machines (VMs). These systems support countywide enterprise JBoss/Tomcat, Oracle, and IBM WebSphere Application Servers.
C. DESCRIPTION OF WORK/DUTIES:
The Consultant shall perform all of the duties listed below:
1. Deploy, maintain, implement and troubleshoot Red Hat Enterprise Linux based systems and applications on VMware.
2. Maintain documentation of IT standards and best practices, systems implementation and configuration details.
3. Maintain and audit user accounts.
4. Build and maintain Linux templates on VMware.
5. Track vulnerabilities and apply appropriate patches and upgrades.
6. Provide support to customers and internal organizational teams.
7. Create and maintain file systems on Network-Attached Storage (NAS) and Storage Area Network (SAN) storage environments.
8. Perform system enhancements and upgrades of operating systems and related products.
9. Monitor performance of Linux systems and related environments and implement notifications to maximize system stability and performance.
10. Provide 24x7 on-call support for production systems.
11. Provide written status reports to management upon request.
12. Provide knowledge transfer to team members.
13. Create shell scripts to automate tasks and perform basic data analysis.
D. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Consultant must meet all of the following minimum qualifications:
1. Three (3) years' experience within the last five (5) years provisioning, installing, configuring, and maintaining Linux systems with emphasis on Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
2. Three (3) years' experience within the last five (5) years creating shell scripts.
3. Three (3) years' experience within the last five (5) years diagnosing performance problems related to operating system, application, and network or memory/CPU utilization.
4. Three (3) years' experience within the last five (5) years managing and monitoring servers in production environments, including security and policy compliance.
5. One (1) year experience within the last three (3) years with automation frameworks Puppet, Red Hat Satellite Server.
6. One (1) year experience within the last three (3) years maintaining Logical Volume Manager (LVM) and creating file systems.
7. One (1) year experience within the last three (3) years in an environment with formal change control processes.
8. One (1) year experience within the last three (3) years managing Linux servers on VMware.
Please note that our client does allow Skype/remote interviews. However they reserve the right to require an in-person interview.
