Position: Message Broker Developer
Duration: 9+ months
Location: Buffalo, NY
General Duties
The Senior Application Developer is responsible for providing technical direction and expertise
for IT projects. The Senior Application Developer will use project management methodologies
and System Life Cycle disciplines to ensure successful implementation of projects in support of
corporate initiatives. The Senior Application Developer participates on development efforts by
performing detailed analysis, developing detailed designs, programming, and testing applications.
The Senior Application Developer mentors Application Developers in their tasks. The ability to
effectively communicate with all levels of the organization, including senior management, is
essential. Overtime and holiday work are required and a condition of employment
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology or equivalent in experience and education desired.
Minimum of 5 year(s) experience designing and developing software with the ability to design and
implement reusable objects.
Expert level experience with various programming languages and tools
Advanced knowledge of SQL, Java Message Broker
Experience methodology based development, including agile and waterfall
Ability to navigate and work on multiple operating systems such as Windows and Unix
Experience with automated unit and/or functional testing methods preferred
Ability to work as part of a team or to be self-directed as required
Ability to mentor developers in programming languages, SQL and development methodology.
Good oral and written communication skills
Knowledge of health care payer business is preferred
Specific Duties
A. Leadership
• Promote Independent Health’s Core Values in all activities.
• Coach, mentor, and delegate to Application Developers to facilitate their development.
• Provide day-to-day technical support to Application Developers and other IT resources to
solve problems, provide guidance and direction and develop new skills in others.
• Facilitate a collaborative approach to problem solving and make well-reasoned decisions.
B. Engineering
• Follows the IT systems development lifecycle in order to achieve project objectives within
budget and timeframe requirements.
• Manages small to medium sized projects.
• Follow established quality standards, checkpoints, and communications processes to ensure
project quality.
C. System and Software Development
• Demonstrates good analytical abilities and technical skills.
• Prepares detailed system and program specifications.
• Manages testing of all system functions.
• Prepares and provides user training and system documentation.
• Automate data access processes and solve integration problems for business units and
external stakeholders.
• Design, blueprint, code and provide development support as necessary for data and
applications.
• Develop and implement strategies for meeting requirements that are not addressed by
current capabilities.
• Create and follow standards and maintain processes to balance consistency with flexibility
to support the business needs.
• Develop written specifications and documentation to support development processes.
• Apply proven communication, analytical and problem-solving skills to identify,
communicate, and resolve problems.
• Ensure stability, integrity, availability, productivity, and efficient integration solutions.
D. End User Support
• Translates customer needs into requirements.
• Manages changes to requirements.
• Ensures customer requests for information are addressed and follow up occurs.
• Evaluates and recommends application systems that can improve department’s
environment.
• Work with the business unit to develop a solution fitting the business requirements.
