Sr. Network Engineer
CALEDONIA, Michigan

Job Purpose
The Senior Network Engineer is responsible for the architecture collaboration, implementation and support of a highly available enterprise-level network and is involved with a mix of project work and system support. Additionally, the Senior Network Engineer provides mentoring to other staff members, including Network Engineers.

Essential Job Duties & Responsibilities
Collaborates with Principal Architect to design, implement and maintain network switches, and routers on in enterprise data centers and across national LAN/WAN locations.
Implements and maintains secure access to the Internet for users and for file transfers to vendors.
Implements, and maintains VPNs for remote connectivity.
Implements and maintains secure wired and wireless network access.
Determines cost-effective ways to manage the network.
Diagnoses, troubleshoots, and resolves complex network issues.
Detects the root causes of network anomalies.
Provides technical support to end users.
Mentors less experienced Network Engineers.
Runs small and medium projects from start to finish in accordance with department processes.
Provides management level recommendations via formal presentations.
Assesses as-is infrastructure at a deep level and makes recommendations for projects.

Other duties
Provides after-hours operational support and change management implementation as needed.
Other duties as assigned.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Expert knowledge of Cisco switch and router hardware (Nexus series).
In-depth knowledge of LAN switch technology (including Spanning tree, VTP and HSRP).
Expert knowledge of VPN technologies (Citrix Access Gateway, Cisco AnyConnect).
Expert knowledge of IPv4 and familiarity with IPv6.
Expert knowledge of routing protocols (OSPF, BGP).
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with QOS.
Demonstrated knowledge and experience with WAN acceleration (Silverpeak).
In-depth knowledge of Wireless technology (Cisco).
In-depth Firewall knowledge (Checkpoint).
In-depth load balancing knowledge (Citrix NetScaler).
In-depth proxy knowledge (Blue Coat).
In-depth knowledge of DNS (Infoblox).
Ability to resolve problems with packet captures and analysis (Wireshark, tcpdump, Gigamon).
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to make effective decisions quickly with limited information.
Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal communication skills.
Ability to use a helpdesk program to manage customer issues
Ability to use a change management system to implement change orders.
Knowledge of Workfront Project Management Tool

Education and Experience
Bachelors degree in telecommunications, engineering or related field, and/or equivalent experience.
5 - 8 years of technical experience in a large enterprise network environment.
Experience with the following technologies, preferred:
Cisco ASA
Palo Alto
F5 (Big IP)
NAC (Cisco ISE)
VOIP technology
IPS (Checkpoint)
Cisco ACS, Tacacs+, Radius, 2-factor
DWDM technologies
Network Management tools (Cisco Prime LMS/NCS, SolarWinds, WhatsUp Gold, SNMP V3, syslog.Ciena)
Perl, other scripting languages.

Certifications, Licenses, Registrations
CCNP
CISSP
