Duties & Responsibilites :

CANDIDATES MUST BE LOCATED IN OKLAHOMA CITY

Project Information:

-This is more of a maintenance and enhancements role
-The applications are from a 3rd party platform from a company called Guidewire. Use three of their applications.
· 1 claims application
· 1 billing application
· 1 policy management application

-This role is focused on billing and policy management applications
-Unified platform – common code base. Applications written in Java, Tomcat server, using SQL Server Database.
-Can customize application to how they need it to work. Have out of the box, base implementation based on system they are in. Basic functionality for invoicing (billing) and for managing policies (policy application).
-The way they customize, they use an Open source language Guidewire (GoSu) – similar to Java, syntax wise it is very similar.
-Can take Java and directly forward it over. Can extend classes as you would in Java.
=Java WebService clients. Allows for WebServices
– pretty basic as far as implementation.
-Write Java web clients and will call out to the platform.
-In a maintenance mode, 1 or 2 major releases in a year, not always new functionality
– mainly maintenance and enhancements

Technologies  Tools: 
 Must Have:
· Core Java (using 6, but fine with versions 5 and above)
· WebServices – SOAP, WSDL (custom interface that can convert SOAP to REST and vice versa) –consumers are required
· JMS
· Relational database experience: SQL, writing queries, joins, stored procedures
· Understanding of MVC frameworks (Spring, Struts) – not using though
· Understanding of ORM (Hibernate, JPA)– not using though

Strong Plus:
· Struts
· Spring
· Hibernate
· Guidewire
· Insurance industry experience – property and casualty
· Billing experience


Soft Skills Needed:
Communication skills, can work with BAs, QAs, SMEs, working with the business directly. Someone can take technical jargon and make it easy for people to understand. Laid back environment, everyone is easy going on the team.
Development Methodology: Agile/Waterfall combination – SOX compliance, a lot more documentation

Team Dynamics:
-Developers – 7 on team locally, 2 in California
-Rotating number of QAs
-3 primary teams that work on these applications – Maintenance and Enhancements, Release Team, and Offshore production support team
